The Florida Striders are Celebrating 30 Years!
The 30th Anniversary Banquet will be held on Friday September 19 at the Hilltop Restaurant in Orange Park. The cost is $20 per person and the deadline for RSVP and pre-payment is September 5th. RSVP and Checks to be sent to Glenn Hanna at 7765 Rock Ridge Drive, Jacksonville, Florida, 32244. Make checks payable to the Florida Striders Track Club. We are inviting Founding and long time members, past presidents and long time sponsors. This will be a Jacket Required affair and should be a good time to remenisce and talk about the future! There will be presentations, speeches and much memorabilia on display.
We will have a family picnic on Camp Blanding on Sunday August 24th starting after the Hammerhead Triathlon around 12:00 Noon. We will be at the Reece Scott picnic area on Camp Blanding. There is a boatramp there and we will be on Kingsley lake so bring your personal watercraft and canoes/kayaks if you have them.
Those wishing to attend must RSVP to Glenn Hanna prior to August 18th so that we can provide Camp Blanding security eith the full name of all those attending the picnic. Active duty military and retired with valid ID and sticker can be admitted without providing your information to Glenn. As always, let us know if you plan to attend so we can provide for the food and such and bring a sidedish!
We had a great time last year and would love to see a huge crowd this year!
The August StrideRight is here!
Jay Birmingham a living legend
If you don't know Jay Birmingham I certainly hope you get the chance to meet
him and, better yet, listen to him speak about the joys of running and
challenging yourself. I make it a point to read anything that Jay writes about
and take any opportunity to listen to him speak. Jay is the reason I like hills.
He is also the reason that I get more excited at a race or run when the weather
turns bad than when it is perfect!
Jay holds the record for running from Los Angeles to New York. He crossed the USA running solo in 1980 setting a record that stands to this day!
Here are some good articles and stories about Jay's accomplishments. If you are looking for motivation, read some of these and don't miss the Wide World Of Running by Jay Birmingham in most issues of the Strideright!
